Blogger or WordPress

             My choice of blog site

As I looked more into the differences between the two, I found these interesting points:

  • Google likes WordPress more and always puts WordPress before Blogger on the search engine
  • You can own your own content if you are using WordPress on your own hosting and there is a free step by step web tutorial that shows how to do that with tools that are their to help you
  • There is more power for better branding with WordPress
  • You can back up your blog if you own WordPress on you own hosting so you dont have to recreate your blog after an amount of years as WordPress allows you to backed it up
  • WordPress offers a quite extensive amount of widgets apps and plugins, Blogger not so much
  • Finally you can categorise your posts on WordPress were as Blogger is a more random style of posting

I found three distinct categories that differentiated the two, these being,
  • Cost constraints
  • Freedom and limitations
  • Maintenance and development

WordPress.com vs WordPress.org, the two should never be confused as ones free the other has associated costs so for a serious blogger there may be decisions based on costs, constraints, freedom and limitations.
Maintenance and development, are you going to keep posting or are you only posting now and then, also if you dont make any payments then you dont really own it so Google, if not happy with your content can and will remove it.

Both of these sites have their advantages for me, I found WordPress offered quite an extensive ability to modify and customise, if I were to require a blogging system for a company I think WordPress would be ideal, as for Blogger I found suited the current requirements that I have, that being for my BCS DLT subject, for me I found Blogger was more simple and easy to use and suited these needs perfectly.
