Assessed Activity WS1.2 Creating my Blogs

 Assessed Activity WS1.2

The first activity I had to do was Assessed activity WS1.2 in which I was required to create two blogs, the first was WordPress and the second was Blogger, I then gave a small description of myself in the form of a Mihimihi or Introduction. I then made a comment on privacy implications of students making blog post introductions and then added a statement of authentification for the blog sites.

Assessed Activity 2.3 Challenges

                       CHALLENGES

The biggest challenges I had when thinking about digital technology was actually attaining the technologies and then once I have them, how current they were, before I came to EIT I swore XP was my favourite operating system, while in EIT I was given the opportunities to access a multitude of digital technology that has since, not only increased my understanding of the use of digital technology but also the importance of the evolution digital technology is currently undergoing.
Learning new technologies can be a little daunting but as I have found , can also be just as exciting, daunting because it can be as simple as finding a new digital technology that has an easy to use and understand interface such as blogging to the more detailed software such as MYOB, and exciting because I love learning new digital technologies.

Assessed Activity 2.2 Technologies

                    TECHNOLOGIES

The most memorable learning experience I've had using technology was my favourite online virtual networking program "Secondlife", at first I new nothing of the software and its requirements but as I progressed through installing it I found there was a whole new world of understanding I needed to know just to navigate through it, there were so many options that ranged from personal preferences to debugging to modifying, as the months progressed I eventually began understanding more and more of the processes of the program and the learning never stops, just after I thought I got this, its time for the update, fixing old bugs and creating new ones, making the program supposedly a better experience but only after learning the new system.
Today now over 10 years on the amount of interface with the online networking system is enormous, I create my own builds using blended, zbrush, maya and photoshop, I create my own animations though still budget using avimator and am now creating my own audio gestures, Ive learnt alot about marketing and copyrites, a bit about business management, blogging, database, user interface and alot about fundraising project management, all these to fully appreciate the potential of Secondlife, the only subject left to get is coding as copying and pasting old code of the wiki can sometimes be a little fishy, but the learning is never ending because once I think I may be on to something, theres an update.

Assessed Activity 2.1 Pedagogies

                       PEDAGOGIES

What is pedagogy

There are many definitions of pedagogy. Perhaps the simplest is 'The science of teaching' (Oxford English Dictionary, 2015). However, the term denotes more than just a set of teaching techniques.

Pedagogy is the science of how teachers teach or overall methods used to plan and implement one or more instructional strategies.

Pedagogy encompasses:
  • What is taught/learned - the content
  • How it is taught or learned - approaches to teaching and learning
  • Why it is taught or learned - the underpinning values, philosophy or rationale.
The three are intertwined and the 'why' will have a strong influence on what is taught or learned and how.

Different methods of pedagogy

One method of pedagogy is learning through using, as you browse through a program you would usually use your understanding of commonly identified options, these can vary from seeing and identifying  recognisable options such as some of the toolbar icons, so as you navigate through the new program, sight help you learn by engaging your memory and comprehension.

Another form of pedagogy is environment, learning through visual, hearing and touch, incorporating these senses allow you to learn is many areas from classrooms too school camps, the student engages these senses to understand what is happening and what is needed of them, a tutor may be using a whiteboard or monitor, the tutor maybe talking or giving a physical example of a project, the student watches, listens, trys the problem physically such as feeling the textures of materials and as the student does this they comprehend , understand and learn.

E-learning and pedagogy

Information and communication technology (ICT) has a major impact in the way we interact with it and each other. Similarly, e-learning (that is, learning supported by ICT) has considerable potential to support pedagogical approaches.

The technologies I found to learn from was the software and  multiple programs online, Photoshop, Blender, Google plus and other networking systems, Google drive or even browser addons would be the most memorable in helping me learn, as the newer versions were released I would find some new features both cool and frustrating but overtime eventually see it become common knowledge over time

Technology a barrier to your learning

Definitely when learning a new software or navigating through new systems, sometimes when I come across a new program it may not be as easy to get around than others maybe due to poor interface or just my lack of comprehension, but on continual attempts and experimenting I eventually begin to pick it up as I go.

Assessed Activity 1.2 Vakog & NLP

                      VAKOG & NLP

VAKOG stands for Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory and Gustatory and is an acronym meaning the use of these senses for our benefit to make better connections with people, (Xiao chi Liu, 2015)

Below I will give a brief explanation of three of these senses, the three being Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic.

Visual people are more able to visualise things. Sight, Visual imagery, Spacial awareness. Their visual nature effects their language too, so they will see the bigger picture, look forward, say what they see. Their words will demonstrate their visual nature. But much more than that, quite often their eyes will reveal their visual nature for example if you are visualizing your eyes tend to look up (Wiki.org, 2015)

Auditory people, sound, speech, dialog, lead with their hearing. They are able to understand easily just through audio. They might, say ideas or may need to relay or express themselves or maybe need to be heard.

Kinesthetic people like the way stuff feels, they go with their gut instinct and what “feels right” in the circumstances. Kinesthetic eye cues are downwards.

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming and regard how the mind processes and stores information, The idea of this model is that the experience is represented in the mind in sensorial terms, the five senses, NLP represents the three main components involved when we interact with our environment, the neurological system controls, navigates and receives information to produce our experiences, linguistics is our communication with others and programming is what we have learnt and stipulates how we action what we have learnt for example a standard of work that is required of a student, the student has learned a behavioral pattern that is expected of him, therefore maintains that standard throughout his work. (Mather, S, 2015)

This combined knowledge of NLP and the VAKOG sensing capability of information becomes crucial in developing and framing educational material and choosing the media to be used (Exploring DLT, 2013)

Assessed Activity 1.1 Ubiquitous

Individualised & ubiquitous learning

In today's age with all the new digital technology we have to draw from, such as mobile devices like tablets and ipads, the internet and WiFi, learning has become so easily accessible that we are able to find most any topic we desire with only a few taps of our fingers, from anywhere and at any time.

One example of this is simply reading, the old days of finding the time to go to the library and borrow that book your after, although still exciting has been made even easier, you dont have to carry all those books around with you any more because at your finger tips via your mobile device, you are able to connect to the internet and retrieve those books and an unlimited amount more any time you want.

Another example would be virtual education, this is a form of education that allows the student to learn at their time of choosing, this also lets the student learn from their own choice of location, if the student is learning via correspondence or learning through one of the many online institutions such as Alison and Cousera,  the student can find a time that is suitable for them at a location of their choice thus creating a time flexible, and sometimes cost saving learning environment.
